Episode XXIII: Shout-outs and The Sous Vide Experiment

Greetings!

This week we share some insight on where to look for support outside of Connect or your meeting rooms. There’s a whole big community out there if you look for it!

We also give a recap of the Stan’s Donut 5K race that we ran over the weekend. What a fun themed race this was! We recorded a little video, and will be posting that soon.

Run Done!
Fun inflatables!
Medal & Treat

For the Weigh In, Greg shares how he’s doing. Tab still hasn’t had her monthly Lifetime weigh in, yet, but seems to be holding pretty steady.

In the Freestyle, we talk about “Cool Moves” and how to keep active in the hot summer months. Also: don’t hate on sweating! It’s awesome!

In the Recipe Corner, we have a double header.

First up, our review of the Anova Sous Vide Precision Cooker.

We cooked a flank steak first, adding about 1/4 cup Trader Joes Cold Pressed Green Goddess Salad Dressing, salt, pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder and 1 tsp dried onions. From frozen, we cooked it at 131 degrees for 2 hours, then seared it 2 minutes per side in a cast iron skillet.

It. Was. Perfection.

Next we cooked 4 eggs at 146 degrees for 45 minutes. Most recipes suggest simmering the finished product for an additional couple of minutes, since the outer part of the egg white stays pretty loose still after the sous vide poach. We have to agree that this would be a good idea. Alternately, we’ll try poaching in sous vide for a minute longer and/or turning the eggs out onto paper towel before placing the finished product on toast.

The yolk of these eggs was magical.

And our other recipe – Greg’s Buffalo Chicken Salad

It’s super simple. We use pre-prepped chicken strips from Costco and bagged kale salad.

  • 3 – 4 oz Chicken strips
  • I Can’t Believe it’s not Butter Spray
  • Frank’s Red Hot Sauce (to taste)
  • Bagged Cruciferous Crunch or other kale/brussels salad.
  • Low-fat Blue Cheese Salad Dressing

Warm up the chicken, spray it with butter spray and toss it in hot sauce. Toss salad greens with blue cheese dressing.
Top the greens with the warm chicken, toss, and serve.

That’s it. Simple!

We also share a few new-to-us treats that we’ve been enjoying.

The winner of our “Yes, Italian!” cookbook giveaway was @katrinashree_ww – congratulations!! Our last giveaway will be up soon, and the prize is a 9-in-1 kitchen tool kit from Weight Watchers!

Don’t forget – we have an “Ask Us Anything” episode coming up soon, so get your questions ready. What segments do you like? What do you want to hear more of?

And our 1 year Weight Watchers anniversary is coming up – we’d love your suggestions for what to do to celebrate!

Episode XXII: Simply Filling & Sprengel Plan Review (plus another Giveaway!)

Hello friends!

We start this episode with a recap of our Rock’n’Roll 1/2 marathon recap – how did we do? Did we meet our goals? We definitely had a great time, and recommend the races to folks who want to try running at any distance from 5K to full marathon.

Before the race – trying to ignore those low-hanging clouds…
After the race – proud of crushing those goals!

In the Weigh In, Greg continues to battle his way back to goal. Find out what’s been up on that front, and what new challenges he’s facing.

In our Freestyle discussion, we tackle “Boost Self Esteem”. How can your self esteem affect your weight loss journey, and what can you do about it. Well, be your own BFF for one!

We share another recipe from “Yes, Italian!” for our Recipe Corner. Get ready to enjoy the Porchetta Spiced Chicken with Broccolini! You can also find it on the Weight Watchers website and app if you don’t have the book. Here’s the link to the recipe!

We also share our thoughts now that we’ve been following slightly different versions of the Weight Watchers plans. Greg has been adapting his Freestyle points to the Sprengel23 Plan and Tab has been following Simply Filling. We share our thoughts on the pros and cons of what we’re doing and whether or not we’ll keep following these plans. (For the record, it can be tricky to find a lot of information about Simply Filling on the WW websites, so do some digging, ask around on Connect, and use the Help feature on your app. When in doubt, you can always ask your leader for information.)

We have a winner for the Weight Watchers Food Chopper – congratulations to Rosella Parretta of Canada! We’ll be shipping your prize off soon!

Our next prize is the one and only “Yes, Italian!” Cookbook! We’ll be using Instagram to give this one away, so look for the post announcing the giveaway shortly.

Looking ahead a couple of episodes, we’ll be doing another “Ask Us Anything” episode, so get your questions ready. If you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!

Episode XXI: The Big Sugar Controversy! (and new Archer Farms Ice Cream flavors)

Hello friends! We hope you had a great week! We’re back with Episode 21 – or XXI if you’re Roman.

This episode we share about an activity we participated in – an Historic Fun Run about the Great Chicago Fire hosted by Fleet Feet Chicago. We learned a lot about the fire, and Chicago while burning a lot of Activity Points – win/win!

The Route

Formerly the O’Leary Barn

St. Patrick’s Church – survived the fire and is the oldest church in Chicago.
The site of the Haymarket Affair – a workers’ uprising.
Crossing the river.
We added some miles after the fun-run.

Don’t worry, Buddy got some Activity Points this week, too.

Would you believe we actually went to WEIGH IN this week? We share how it went.

The Freestyle Weekly topic was “Be Sugar Savvy”. It was very controversial in our meeting room – was that the case in your meeting room as well? We dig a little deeper and try and figure out why – bear in mind we are not doctors, we’re just trying to understand the topic. Weigh in with your own opinions.

In Recipe Corner, we share a “scandalous” recipe for Pasta Puttanesca. We don’t have the rights to reprint it, but we share the details on our podcast, so have a listen. It’s honestly just “throw a bunch of salty stuff in a pan and add cooked spaghetti”, but slightly more refined. You can also find it in the “Yes, Italian” cookbook from Weight Watchers, or by clicking this link directly to the recipe on the Weight Watchers website.

And did you know that Archer Farms (of Target Fame) has it’s own low-sugar, high-protein ice cream now? Well, we tried 4 of the flavors and we break them down for you. (Spoiler: they’re GOOD)

We also found two new flavors of Quest Protein Bars that are great. Peanut Butter Brownie Smash and Maple Waffle Protein Bar.
Check them out!

Finally: We announce the winner of our first raffle! The winner of the Weight Watchers tote, Weight Watchers colored pencils and Weight Watchers note book is….. Samantha Martin of Kentucky. Congratulations!! Your prize will be on it’s way shortly!

And we have a new raffle starting NOW! Go and enter our raffle for a Weight Watcher “Food Chopper” by visiting our Facebook Page and following the instructions there on the “Giveaways” tab. Good luck!
